Hošek Contemporary is pleased to host Somatic Algorithm, an exhibition by Özgür Erkök Moroder.

In this immersive, site specific 3d pen printed drawing installation “..feel like i feel like i..”, the drawings are fleeing out of the paper, transforming into tangible objects, floating in three dimensional space, thus becoming embodiment of “imagination”.

The artwork is investigating connections and gaps between psycho-biological constructions and signifier-signified-meaning productions within the frame of body & identity discourses. The installation is a performative process in which, as a form of role switching, the artist identifies as an artificial intelligence (AI) and produces 3d print drawings from a trans-human point of view.

The anchor point of the artwork is to come up with creative questions and interpretations from a queer and neo-dadaistic perspective regarding the concept of body in the frame of today’s technologies, together with meaning systems shaping it. “The body” as constituted by meanings, altered by norms, wrapped up, classified and marked with dress codes which are in turn shaped by ideologies and technologies.

The AI (i.e., the artist Ö.E.M.) runs a fabricated analysis method on “pleasure” whose different stages are represented in the installation. These include a skinless mixed gender portrait which is opened like a world atlas, a brainless, enhanced nervous system and facial recognition grids of orgasmic states. In a way of an euphoric algorithm, the human body is opened, fragmentalized, and a non-machine aspect of it; namely pleasure, is scanned to be analyzed by the AI. In the frame of the artwork, the AI, when confronted with such an impossible task, creates an absurd fusion of forms, signifiers and meanings. Fragments and the outcomes of the process are all aligned like a path, a linear inventory installation in the gallery space.

It is an attempt to deconstruct the association between form and meaning to create an experimentation field that enables critical imagination in the context of body & identity politics. It is an experience through the aesthetics of an effort in vain.
