artificial hair, wire and glue

produced for the stage design of the theatre play “Blanche”

interactive solo theatre play based on “A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams, 1947

Director: Shlomo Liebermann

Blanche:
Tarantula was the name of it. I stayed at a hotel called the Tarantula Arms.

Mitch:
Tarantula Arms?

Blanche:
Yes, a big spider. That's where I brought my victims. Yes, I've had many meetings with strangers.

The title „Hotel Tarantula“ is a quote from the play. The main figure Blanche denigrates the hotel „Flamigo“ where Blance stays before she moves to Stella. In “Blanche” (Lieberman), stage design brought 2 different places together. While everyday objects that Blance use are from Stellas flat, besides we see giant branches made of hair suspended from the ceiling, reaching out to every corner of the stage. It resembles to a spider as well as a root of a tree. Forming the roof of the whole stage. The stage where Blance happens.

This time RFRM turns to Hotel Tarantula, a hair jungle. Brings a short moment of uncanny intimacy to the passing strangers of the street.
